2. Message from the SVCAA regarding VSIP Re-Hire guidelines

“Beginning in August, 2012, former faculty who participated in the VSIP may be employed in positions funded by state funds provided that

1) the job functions that they will be performing are specific, clearly defined in writing and for a short duration,

2) the total of their responsibilities paid on state funds is less than 0.25 FTE, and

3) the compensation they are receiving is comparable to that of other short term employees rather than to the compensation they earned as tenured faculty.

Employment for VSIP participants paid exclusively from non-state funding such as grants and contracts or Foundation funds is not delimited by these guidelines.”

3. Take A Parent To Lunch (New Student Enrollment 2012)

Each day of New Student Enrollment (typically the first week of June through early July), volunteer faculty escort parents from the College Session to Selleck Dining Hall and host the parents for lunch—going through the cafeteria line and then joining a table of 8 or so parents.

In my experience, parents tend to ask about the campus, the faculty member’s experience as a teacher and/or research interests.

If you have faculty in your department whom you’d recommend for this, please email their names to Debbie Minter (dminter1@unl.edu). Their names will be forwarded to NSE and the faculty will be formally invited to participate through a mailing.
