Why you chose your major

I initially started out with psychology on the social work track. After taking a social work class and talking with my professor, it became clear that social work was not a track I should be on. So, I switched to philosophy. I have always loved philosophy and that's how my brain naturally works. I heard about bioethics through a family friend and felt the puzzle pieces come into place for what was next. So, I switched to philosophy with plans of going to grad school to get my masters in bioethics.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

The class that has had the biggest impact on me has actually been my medical ethics course. It is what I want to do long term and I have been fascinated by the materials/readings for class and the discussions we've been able to have. It has, also, made me so much more aware of how desperate the world and medicine is for the re-installation of ethics.

Research or internship experience

I actually haven't done either but I am applying for internships for next year.

Other involvement

I am a city group leader with the SALT CO., an honors peer mentor, a CAS ambassador, and a member (soon to be president) of the humanities of medicine minor student advisory board

Why you chose Nebraska

My family is from Nebraska, from Lincoln, Omaha, York, and Grand Island, which means I grew up as a Husker. Growing up, I was always drawn to going to UNL based on that. But, as I started to look at colleges, I was drawn to UNL for the research and study abroad opportunities they offered. Additionally, the honors program really piqued my interests with the liberal arts and interdisciplinary model. Coming from a liberal arts high school, I knew that that was something I wanted to continue and after visiting campus, it all felt so perfect.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
