Why you chose your major

I was torn between my interest in the humanities and the natural sciences, and once I got to UNL, I realized that I did not have to choose, I could focus on both of my major areas of interest.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

During Spring Break of my junior year, I took a field course, BIOS 491, where we visited Sapelo Island off the coast of Georgia, and did a great deal of hands on activities that granted a great number of unique experiences, and lifelong memories and friendships.

Research or internship experience

I helped with research in Dr. Cressler’s lab, where we worked with Daphnia Magna, water fleas, to determine what subspecies are best at eating certain types of toxic algae. Working in a wet lab was a great experience for me, and reaffirmed my interest in science!

Other involvement

I am involved as a biology teaching assistant for several classes, and an Honors Peer mentor, among other activities.

Why you chose Nebraska

I am from a small town near Lincoln, and staying home meant a great deal to me. Once I visited UNL, I knew that I wanted to be a Husker for sure!
