Why you chose your major

I chose biochemistry because I am really interested in studying how the different components of the body work the way they do all the way down to the molecular level. I also felt that this major would best prepare me for graduate school. I chose my psychology minor because I am fascinated with the workings of the brain and understanding how peoples' actions can be predicted and influenced.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

My Chem 109 class had the biggest impact on me because I felt that it helped me the most in developing effective study strategies and approaches to be successful in my college classes. Dr. Kautz was also a very effective professor in not only teaching the material, but providing us numerous resources to reinforce what we know.

Research or internship experience

I began involvement in research through Dr. Van Dijk's lab this winter. It has provided me a way to learn a variety of lab techniques and apply concepts that I have learned in my core classes. In addition, the lab has given me the opportunity to learn more upper level procedures and content that will be exposed to in the future. I have also enjoyed developing a relationship with her and the other students involved.

Other involvement

I am in the honors program, a volunteer in the ER at Bryan hospital, an honors peer mentor, involved in Greek life, and in the DEI committee on ASUN.

Why you chose Nebraska

The practical reasons were that I wanted to be close to home and the cost was right for my situation. I also have grown up loving the huskers, really liked the campus and programs offered, and wanted to be a part of the community here at Lincoln.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
