Why you chose your major

Through my eyes, a collaboration between the ideas of political science and history allows us to appreciate and maximize the value of our present time. History allows us to view the past and its impacts onto our current moments and future, whereas political science provides us the opportunity to perceive these notions in a meaningful way. When paired together, these disciplines create a special avenue to navigate and understand our ever-growing and ever-changing world!

Although I never intended to minor in Classics, after taking Ancient Greece with Dr. Vanessa Gorman, the fall of my freshman year, I was set on taking all of her classics classes. Flash forward a few semesters later, and I have found a love for the subject and even found a mentor I am forever grateful for!

Favorite and/or most impactful course

The class that has made the biggest impact on me is CLAS/HIST 311: The Trojan War. Apart from exploring the awesome topic of the Trojan War, the instructor Dr. Vanessa Gorman, made it so that we would all leave the course as better thinkers, readers, and writers. Her dedication and efforts to help her students grow in every capacity truly improved my skill set on all fronts. Furthermore, the class environment was designed to genuinely foster learning for the value of knowledge rather than for a grade, allowing me to appreciate everything that was in front of me and apply her teachings to my other courses.

Research or internship experience

Over Summer '22, I had the chance to serve as an intern under former Senior District Judge Richard G. Kopf at the United States District Courthouse of Nebraska. Positioned under the Pro-Se law clerk, I was able to observe court hearings regarding bankruptcy, sentencing, change of plea, motion filings, and more. My other duties included filing orders and motions and organizing court documents. Due to my interests in going to law school, this opportunity gave me exposure to the courts and turned my abstract interest of the law into a cemented plan for a legal career!

Other involvement

Apart from CAS Ambassadors, I am a learning consultant at the UNL Study Stop center and I serve as the treasurer for Pi Sigma Alpha, UNL's Political Science Honor Society. Furthermore, I volunteer with the Tenant Assistance Project, a free legal service program for those facing evictions, which is affiliated with the law school here at UNL.

Why you chose Nebraska

For me, Nebraska was a perfect fit because it was close to home, affordable, and provided the opportunities necessary to allow me to cultivate my passions and grow as a person in a supportive environment.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
