Research Objective

We will generate innovative and significant scholarship that will yield new knowledge, shape how we teach and learn, and contribute to a deeper understanding of the natural and cultural worlds.

Education Objective

We will provide undergraduates with an excellent liberal arts education -- distinguished by active student learning and discovery, intellectual breadth and depth, and the development of enduring skills -- that prepares them to be successful and engaged citizens in a diverse and global society.

We will enhance graduate studies in the College through strategic program development in both traditional disciplines and interdisciplinary areas of study.

  • Strategy 1: Increase student Access to the College
    • Tactic a) Establish new student recruitment scholarship
    • Tactic b) Craft new CAS scholarship essay prompts and rubrics
  • Strategy 2: Enhance Student Advising and Career Coaching to students
    • Tactic a) Assess advising needs throughout the College
    • Tactic b) Partner with Career Services on resourcing two new career coaches in the College
  • Strategy 3: Plan for Enrollment Growth
    • Tactic a) Assess undergraduate enrollment patterns and work with Academic Affairs to fund additional sections of critical classes
    • Tactic b) Improve recruitment of high quality graduate students
    • Tactic c) Include consideration of teaching needs in hiring plan
  • Strategy 4: Promote opportunities for high achieving students
    • Tactic a) Clarify the process and deadlines for students writing a thesis in the college
    • Tactic b) Work with faculty to develop guidelines and suggestions for advising a thesis
    • Tactic c) Encourage faculty to nominate strong students for prestigious scholarships
    • Tactic d) Provide students support in preparing applications for prestigious scholarships
    • Tactic e) Increase opportunities for students to engage with faculty and research experiences
  • Strategy 5: Support Graduate Programs
    • Tactic a) Work to increase both number of GTAs and competitiveness of GTA stipends

Global Engagement Objective

We will increase our efforts to enhance our standing in Global Engagement and Global Studies.

  • Strategy 1: Establish Travel grant opportunities

  • Strategy 2: Establish College Goals for international research partnerships and education abroad

Diversity & Inclusion Objective

We will work closely with the university to ensure the equal right of every member of our community—students, staff, and faculty—is included, supported, and heard.

  • Strategy 1: Establish a Framework for fostering diversity & inclusion in the College

Engaging Alumni & Fundraising Objective

We will expand alumni involvement in College activities and also enhance its alumni fund-raising efforts.

  • Strategy 1: Outline College and NU Foundation relationship and expectations
    • Tactic a) Establish regular meetings between College/NUF focused on priorities, communication, and outreach
  • Strategy 2: Assess/Grow College/NUF development and outreach resources
    • Tactic a) Hire new External Relations person within the College
    • Tactic b) Develop coordinated development plan with NUF including 12 city tour and annual development trips with high-prospect donors
  • Strategy 3: Establish CAS Alumni Advisory Council

Partnerships Objective

We will foster partnerships with all of our constituents – students, faculty, staff, administrative leadership, alumni, donors, community, private industry, etc. that are meaningful, innovative, and connected to all strategic objectives and the overall mission of the College.

  • Strategy 1: Establish comprehensive Marketing/Communications plan
    • Tactic a) Assure Marketing plan addresses all constituents and allows opportunities for 2-way communication
