Why you chose your major
I have always been interested in STEM fields and healthcare, so declaring biology fit well with the future profession I want to pursue. I chose to become a double major because I thought psychology was very interesting and found myself looking forward to my psyc courses. After talking with an advisor I found that a lot of the requirements had overlap between the majors so I would be able to graduate in 4 years with two degrees.
Favorite course
My favorite course in college so far was BIOC 432: Metabolism and Biological Information. This class was very challenging but gave me such a sense of accomplishment when I was successful. The material tied together a lot of topics I had previously studied and the professor was extremely passionate about the course which made learning difficult material less daunting.
Research or internship experience
My undergraduate research is in a physiology lab studying ornate box turtles. From my research I have been able to better understand the scientific process and realize that science isn't as cut-and-dry as textbooks make it seem. My research has led to a senior thesis project studying hormonal variations that has given me the opportunity to learn new lab techniques, work alongside other undergraduates, and has reaffirmed my interest in pursuing a profession in healthcare.
Other involvement
University Honors Program, Honors Peer Mentoring, Teaching Assistant, Greek Life, Scarlet Guard, and volunteering
Why you chose Nebraska
My family is from Nebraska and so I have been a Husker fan since I was born. Choosing Nebraska was an easy decision for me because it felt like coming home.
Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
