Why you chose your major

I picked my major because I have loved reading and writing my entire life. I had always wanted to go into the Publishing industry or some other career that involved writing whether that be technical writing, content writing, or any other type of writing. When I first thought about picking majors I initially decided to go down a different path and be a Political Science and Global Studies major. However, after a lot of thinking I decided that reading and writing was still what I enjoyed most, so I chose to do a major that would allow me to do both and teach me many new skills.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

ENGL 315B, which is the Women in Popular Culture course. I loved this course because it allowed me to be extremely creative and choose which books and other pieces of work I wanted to analyze. Additionally, I loved this class because I learned so incredibly much about how women are viewed and treated in today's world. We also discussed many of the issues that women still face today. Overall, this class is the class that sparked my creativity and improved my writing tenfold.

Research or internship experience

I am an Editorial, Production, and Design Intern at the University of Nebraska Press. I found out about this internship from my advisor, Kathleen Lacy, and I decided to apply for it because working for a publishing house is something I have always dreamed of doing. Since I have been at the Press, I have learned how to tag manuscripts and indexes, how to problem-solve creatively, my communication skills have increased, and I have ultimately learned more about the Publishing Industry. I have loved going to my internship because I learn new things every day, and the atmosphere and the people are amazing. One of my favorite things to do at my internship (well, before COVID-19) was to go to the weekly Wednesday morning meetings. At these meetings, the editors and the designers would discuss the different projects (books) they are working on, and it was incredible to see people so passionate about their jobs and learn about the process behind making a book.

Other involvement

I am a part of the CAS Connects program and a part of Resilient Women.

Why you chose Nebraska

I decided to go out of state for college, and while I was touring other schools in the lower Midwest, I decided to tour Nebraska. As cheesy as it is, I fell in love with the campus and how even though it was a large campus, it still felt small. Also, I knew that UNL cares about your education and that they offered a wide range of majors to choose from, which was important for me because I wanted to have a well-rounded education in which I would become knowledgable on different topics. Overall, I chose to come to Nebraska because out of all of the colleges I toured, Nebraska felt the most like home.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
