Why you chose your major

I chose Communication Studies as may major based on my time in COMM 101-Introduction to Communication. During this class, I was exposed to all the aspects of communication, from rhetoric to social science. This gave me the chance to see the wide breadth of topics communication covers and how I can use my skills and interests to tailor the major to fit me. Each student is able to different courses in the major that interest them and no one student has the same path-which I love!

Favorite course

My favorite course in college so far has been COMM 201-Research Methods. I loved this class because it surprised me. I did not expect to be drawn to the research side of communication but I enjoyed being able to collect data and analyze it to support our findings. Research in college is so much different than I expected and being able to work with professors and learn more about how I as an undergraduate can get involved in research has been invaluable.

Research or internship experience

During my research methods class, my professor noticed how much I loved conducting research that he connected me to another communications faculty member. Through this connection I have been able to serve as a research assistant and gain class credit through this experience. I have the ability to work on a team and conduct surveys, transcribe interviews, and gain more knowledge about the research project with faculty help.

Other involvement

I serve on the Campus Recreation Advisory Council here at the university. On the council I work with other representatives from around the university community to implement changes to our recreation center. I have the ability to be a voice for the student body and help make the recreation center a better place for the whole community.

Why you chose Nebraska

I chose the University of Nebraska because I was drawn to all the choices I would have as an undergraduate. I have the ability to be involved in multiple organizations around campus including on-campus clubs, volunteering, and Greek life. Out of all of the universities I toured, Nebraska stood out to me as a well-rounded university where I could grow my skills and develop new interests through academics and leadership experiences. I have been able to set myself apart by taking advantage of all the different opportunities this campus has to offer.

Student Ambassadors group

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
