Why you chose your major

I originally wanted a career involved with the Criminal Justice system. I didn't really know what majors meant, so I chose Psychology because I love to understand why people do the things they do, and that is tied very closely to the Criminal Justice system. I added my Criminology minor the first day of my freshman year. After studying abroad in Bilbao, Spain, I realized how much I enjoyed being able to communicate with people in their language. I also loved learning about the culture. After I came back to Lincoln, I declared that minor.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

Elements of Physical Geography, aka beginning level Geography. I saw this "Science course with a Lab" graduation requirement as a burden to fulfill, originally. After beginning this course, however, I finally understood the value in a liberal arts degree for a holistic approach at education. This class allowed me to see the world in a different perspective from my majors and minors.

Research or internship experience

I am currently a part of the Law and Policy Lab under Dr. Eve Brank. I work together with the graduate and fellow undergraduate students to complete several different research tasks. These range everywhere from running participants to content coding responses to a survey. I was able to attend the APLS Research Conference in New Orleans because of this lab and got connected with many professionals in this field. We are doing research regarding the 4th amendment, and we assist the grad students in completing their dissertation studies.

Other involvement

I am involved in Psi Chi, the international honors fraternity for psychology. Biweekly meetings allow UNL students interested in psychology to learn from one another and gain important knowledge for future careers or graduate programs.

Why you chose Nebraska

I grew up believing UNL was the only college I would ever want to go to because I watched the Husker Football team every Saturday. I often traveled to Lincoln for events during high school, and I loved the city. I knew it would be a great place to attend.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
