CAS Policy for Special Topics Courses

Special Topics Courses are intended to enable faculty to develop and try out new courses. A course can only be offered two (2) times as a special topics course; thereafter it must be proposed as a new course to be considered by the department, College Curriculum and Advising Committee (CAS-CAC), and University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UUCC), and Graduate Council or be given special permission by the CAS Dean's office. This applies to undergraduate and graduate courses.

Justification: Limiting the number of times a course can run as a special topics course ensures faculty governance over curriculum.
