Course Scheduling Policy

For 3-Credit Hour Courses in CAS

Three credit hour classes offered by the College of Arts and Sciences are expected to adhere to the standard time blocks on campus. This effort will improve undergraduate retention and decrease time to degree. Offering courses outside the standard time blocks causes serious problems:

  • Creates additional course conflicts for students by occupying at least two standard time blocks with one course. Such conflicts can slow students' progress towards their degree.
  • Reduces enrollment in the off-schedule class because students who might have been interested have difficulty fitting it into their schedules.
  • Diminishes our ability to utilize classroom space well; this causes problems for scheduling rooms and can force units to teach in less-optimal spaces.

The standard meeting patterns advertised by the Registrar's office do not identify evening time blocks; the table below continues the standard sequence into the evening on TR; working with the Registrar's office we created standard time blocks for MW evenings recognizing that Friday evening classes would not accommodate the needs of most students and faculty. The new time blocks are italicized below.
