Carolette Norwood

Alumna Carolette Norwood was selected to be the new President of the DC Sociological Society.

Norwood is a professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at Howard University. Her research examines violence at the intersections of race, gender, class, sexuality, and space, with a particular focus on reproductive and sexual health injustices impacting Black women. Her work has been funded by the National Institues for Health (NIH), the Mellon Foundation, and the Ford Foundation, and her forthcoming book, Jim Crow Geographies, will be published by Columbia University Press.

Since 1934, the DCSS has promoted sociological research, education and discussion; facilitated cooperative exchanges among persons and organizations engaged in sociological research and teaching; encouraged young sociologists and students; and increased the contribution of sociology to human welfare.
