Patrice McMahon, director of the university Honors Program and professor in the Department of Political Science, received over $120K in funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the project "Ordinary People: Poland's reception and integration of Ukrainian refugees."

As a grant related to Archaeological and Ethnographic Field Research, it supports institutionally based empirical field research that uses archaeological or ethnographic methods to answer significant questions in the humanities. The project will include ethnographic interviews, focus groups, and observation of community-based humanitarian groups helping Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

"We are grateful for the research support that the NEH provides to the talented scholars in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln," Mark Button, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said. "Congratulations to Dr. Patrice McMahon on this award!"

"We are immensely proud of the NEH's impact across the U.S. and will continue advocating for increased federal support for future grants in 2024 and beyond," Stephen Kidd, executive director of the NEH.

"These projects show how the humanities help us understand ourselves and our world," Shelly C. Lowe, chair of the NEH, said. "NEH is proud to support 238 exemplary new education, preservation, research, and public programs that will expand our nation's cultural resources and foster learning in communities across the country."
