Student Spotlight Kate Epp
Kate Epp

Why did you select your major?
I began college as a pre-med student wanting to be a psychiatrist! I worked
my first job as a CNA over the summer and realized that I loved what the
nurses were doing for the lives of their patients and was inspired to switch
my path!

What is your favorite course you have taken from your program(s) and why?
CHEM 109 was my favorite class I’ve taken, the concepts were interesting
and it truly taught me the importance of working hard and having it pay off
as well as how to study effectively in my first semester of college.

Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
My biggest role model in undergraduate so far has been Dr.Kautz, who I had as
a professor in CHEM 109 and 110. He was so dedicated to his teaching and just
the concepts of chemistry as a whole and I was able to form a great
relationship with him and the TA’s I had in his class. The chemistry
department is so great here!

Have you had an internship or job? If so, please describe it and explain how
your major(s) helped you with it.
I’ve been a CNA for a little over 6 months now and have thoroughly enjoyed
my patient interaction that I have gained through this job. It helped me
reroute and decide my official major!

What are you involved in on campus or in the community?
Kappa Kappa Gamma!

What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to pursue a life in nursing and hopefully continue on to get my NP or
CRNA!
