Kearah Perreault is a first-year biology student on the pre-med track, already making a big impact on the Nebraska community. She is currently a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford, Nebraska.
Her role entails attending to patient needs, charting data, communicating with other nursing staff, and helping residents engage with fun events. She has also made an effort to form relationships with her residents and give them the best care possible.
“I love getting to know my residents! They remember things I tell them about myself and always ask for updates about school. It’s really cool to see the effects of the care I provide and how much it can help others,” she said.
Amidst forming meaningful relationships, Perreault has also learned how marginalized groups can have negative experiences with healthcare, and how to navigate these different lived experiences.
“A lot of the people I care for have experienced things like being kicked out of multiple facilities, homelessness, poverty, abuse, and substance abuse. Seeing how these experiences have kept a lot of them from accessing healthcare has been really impactful.”
We’re so proud to have students like Kearah who are committed to making a difference in the lives of others!
