Hometown: Moline, Illinois

Year: Senior

Why did you select your major(s) and minor(s)? Were there any events or people that convinced you to declare?
My high school psychology teacher really sparked my love for psychology and influenced me to pursue that degree. In regards to my minor, I became interested in the psychology of criminals and wanted to have some background knowledge on the justice system.

What is your favorite course you have taken from your program(s) and why?
My favorite course so far has been behavioral neuroscience because I was able to learn more about the brain activity behind certain mental illnesses as well as the processes that influence mental illness.

Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
My advisor has been a great mentor for me as well as many of my professors who have encouraged me to learn all that I can and strive to be the best student and person I can be.

Have you had an internship or job? If so, please describe it and explain how your major(s) helped you with it.
I have an internship with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services as a Child and Family Services Intern. Through this internship, I have the opportunity to shadow full-time workers on home visits, initial investigations, and court proceedings. My major and minor have both helped me succeed in this internship by giving me background information on aspects of the justice system, as well as the psyche behind some of the clients.

Did you/are you going to study abroad? If so, describe the experience.
I did not and do not have plans to study abroad.

What are you involved in on campus or in the community?
I am in a sorority on campus, Pi Beta Phi.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to attend graduate school to study Clinical Mental Health Counseling as well as pursue a full-time position at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
