Major: Biological sciences
Samantha is conducting research in Dr. Jung Yul Lim's lab this semester to gain experience and Honors credit. She has been working under a Ph.D. student to research the effect of mechanical stretch on fat cells by culturing cells and performing differentiation. Once differentiated, she collects the sample and runs different tests.
"This research is important because it relates to obesity and diabetes, which are big problems in our country and across the globe," she said.
In addition, her research has supplemented knowledge gained in her biology major and has provided her with a topic for her Honors thesis.
"This experience has taught me so much about what it is like to work in a laboratory setting and conducting your own experiments," she said. "I am very grateful to work with such intelligent people and have been able to increase my own laboratory knowledge in so many ways."
