Meet Vanessa Hubing!

Hubing is a junior majoring in biology with minors in Spanish and psychology. This semester, she is studying abroad in San José, Costa Rica, at the Universidad Veritas.

Here, Hubing is participating in service learning at a local clinic, Clínica Carlos Durán, where she is exploring her career and the Spanish language more deeply!  

“My service-learning has exposed me to Costa Rica’s universal healthcare system. I hope to apply aspects of the patient-centered care I have observed here, as well as the medical Spanish I have learned, to my future goals of becoming a healthcare provider,” she said.  

When she’s not at the clinic, Hubing is immersing herself in Costa Rica’s rich culture by touring the beaches, volcanoes, and neighboring coastal towns. She has also formed a close-knit connection with her host family, who has further helped her embrace the new environment.  

“I am so grateful for the ‘pura vida’ way of life, as well as all of the incredible people I have met that have provided an environment that fosters personal growth and development.”
