Major: Forensic anthropology
Year: Senior
This semester, Wren Shawhan has had an incredible experience interning in the anthropology collections of the University of Nebraska State Museum. Wren is a senior, majoring in Forensic Anthropology and is working with the fascinating Luella Burros collection in Morrill Hall.
Burros was an amateur anthropologist in the 1950s and 60s in Africa who brought back over a thousand objects from her studies and travels in Africa. Wren's tasks include photographing, digitizing, and updating information for all these objects, contributing to the creation of a new database.
Wren hopes that this experience will allow them to gain new skills and provide insights that will support their future career in museums.
They said, “Hands on experience is indispensable in the museum field, and I am really glad I can begin learning about the actual work of collections while still an undergraduate.”
