12 pre-tenure UNL faculty members have been selected to participate in the 2015-2016 Research Development Fellows Program, which provides early career faculty with the practical information and experience they need to successfully pursue competitive grant funding:

- Matthew Johnson, psychology
- Seung-Hyun Ro, biochemistry
- Daizaburo Shizuka, biological sciences
- Sheng Wei, computer science and engineering
- Qiben Yan, computer science and engineering
- Qi Zhang, statistics
- Limei Zhang, biochemistry
- Alexander Zupan, mathematics
“These outstanding early career faculty are our future,” said Prem S. Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development. “Through this program, they will have access to the resources and expert advice that will give them an edge in seeking competitive funding and being successful.”
The program’s primary components are learning activities and expert consultations. Formal and informal learning sessions help fellows develop effective grant proposals, build responsible project budgets and gain insight into the proposal review process.
Fellows participate in individualized consultations with staff from the Office of Research and Economic Development, who offer expertise in project plan conceptualization and grant proposal writing. The office also sponsors travel for fellows to visit federal program officers in Washington, D.C.
