The Fishermen, assistant professor Chigozie Obioma's debut novel, has been nominated for the prestigious Man Booker prize - a £50,000 prize heralded as "a feast for the eyes and mind." The novel, set in small-town Nigeria in the 1990s, is the story of four brothers who witness a terrible prophecy that shakes their fraternal bonds to the core.
Obioma is one of 13 authors on this year's longlist, which includes both new and established writers from all over the world. The shortlist will be announced September 15, and the winner a month after.
