Dakota is a second year Ph.D. Student from Manitou Springs, Colorado and studies Rhetoric and Public Culture. Dakota describes her work as "analyzing contemporary media, events, and trends that 'look' progressive, but in many ways are reasserting or securing dominant power systems such as colonialism, whiteness, and capitalism."

Dakota recently published an essay in the inaugural issue of our discipline's newest journal, Rhetoric, Politics and Culture, called "The Voice of Honor: Centering an Indigenous Ethic of Protocol in Ongoing Perilous Times," and is involved with the Racial Justice Alliance, as well as teaching both COMM 101: Communication in the 21st Century and COMM 311: Intercultural Communication.

"The department culture is positive while also rigorous and that combination is hard to find, but really valuable. I genuinely like my cohort and faculty, and the city of Lincoln has pleasantly surprised me too!"

Dakota enjoys writing at Goldenrod Coffee, walks around Wilderness Park, and trying out Half Baked Harvest recipes!
