Go Big Grad: Logan Schlautman

Go Big Grad Logan Schlautman

I chose to major in meteorology after the Pilger twin tornadoes and seeing what it could do to a community and I have always been interested in the weather since I was young.

Favorite course
My favorite course was METR463: Radar Meteorology, It was very interesting to go in-depth on how radar is used and the equations behind it and learning all the products that help us do our job as meteorologists.

Strongest mentors or role models
It would have to be all of the professors I took a class with, they have an abundance of knowledge and have made a large impact for me wanting to pursue my dream job after I graduate.

Internship or job
I was able to do three internships throughout my time at UNL. I started off at WDHN in Dothan, Alabama, where I found my passion to go into broadcast meteorology. My second stop was here in Lincoln at 10/11 news. This is where used my knowledge from classes to put it into work as I got my chance to be on television for the first time presenting the weather to fellow Nebraskans. My last internship was this summer in Binghamton, New York. This is where I tied all my coursework together and presented the weather for that area numerous times throughout the summer, it couldn't of been with out UNL's meteorology program fro me to get these experiences.

Involvement
I am a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), and I was a Public Relations Coordinator from Fall 2024 - Spring 2025.

Plans after graduation
After I graduate I will be moving to Des Moines, Iowa to work as a Weekend Meteorologist at WOI-TV.
