Why you chose your major
I chose Actuarial Science because it combines my interests in mathematics, finance, and economics, all of which challenge me to think critically and problem solve. I want to be challenged to always be learning in my career and actuaries are definitely doing that. I added Data Science because it allows me to explore my growing interest in computer science and see the practical application those tools have in analyzing and interpreting data. All of my minors complement these areas and are extensions of concepts I already enjoy.

Favorite and/or most impactful course
The class that has had the biggest impact on me so far is Interest Theory (ACTS 440). It has been a significant step forward in my actuarial studies, creating a strong foundation in basic financial mathematics concepts such as loans, bonds, and portfolio management. This class challenged me to think critically and apply mathematical principles to real-world financial problems, which made the material feel immediately relevant. I was pushed to grow academically, and the practical applications left me excited to explore more in the field of actuarial science.

Research or internship experience
I am an Ameritas Research Assistant for the Department of Finance. My responsibilities include sorting through large datasets, using coding languages like SAS to compile and organize information into Excel spreadsheets, and ensuring accuracy in all assignments. This experience has given me lots of hands on experience and has enhanced my ability to work both independently and collaboratively while developing strong analytical and technical skills.

Other involvement
For the past two years, I have been a tutor for Math Motivators, a volunteer program here in Lincoln that focuses on helping students strengthen their math skills. In this role, I work directly with students, providing guidance on homework, explaining challenging concepts, and fostering a positive learning environment. My work with Math Motivators has allowed me to see firsthand the impact of individualized support and encouragement on a student’s confidence and understanding of mathematics.

Why you chose Nebraska
I picked Nebraska because of the community I felt on campus. I wanted college to be a place where I could constantly be involved and have something to explore. At Nebraska theirs always activities going on and plenty of new people to meet.
