Why you chose your major
I chose Biochemistry because I greatly enjoy learning about both biology and chemistry, and wanted to see where those topics intersected. Biochemistry also has a great deal of applications in fields such as research, health, industry, etc. which gives me many different career choices.

Favorite and/or most impactful course
The class with the largest impact has been the Fundamental Biology Lab I. As a result of my performance in lab, as well as helping some other students at the time, I was recommended to become a Teaching Assistant for that lab. As a result of that experience, I learned that I greatly enjoy teaching and want to make a career out of it.

Research or internship experience
Sophomore and Junior year, I participated in an internship with a structural biochemistry lab that focused on identifying the crystal structures and functions of various proteins. Unlike traditional research, I was more focused on shadowing the main professor and learning how to run a lab, all of the experiments involved, and even got to participate in some research myself - which was especially significant since I did not have any research experience.

Other involvement
For seven semesters, I have been both a Lecture Assistant and Teaching Assistant in the School of Biological Sciences. Regarding being a Teaching Assistant, I have personally taught various fundamental biology and microbiology labs as the main instructor, grader, and overall coordinator of my sections. Similarly, in being a Lecture Assistant, I would help the lecture professor with grading, answering questions, and even taught the main lecture occasionally as I gained experience. Both of these involvements have helped me greatly with my leadership skills, teaching, public speaking, and many more.

Why you chose Nebraska
The College of Arts and Sciences has a great biochemistry department, and I was drawn to the student atmosphere of the college after visiting a few times. Additionally, my Dad's side of the family is from Nebraska, so I am a fourth-gen Husker!

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
