Why you chose your major
I chose to major in biological sciences because it will give me the foundation I need to understand systems, diseases, and the science behind medicine, which is essential for my goal of becoming a cardiologist. I also decided to minor in biochemistry, chemistry, and psychology, because I want a deeper understanding about the scientific and human sides of healthcare. Biochemistry and chemistry help me understand the molecular and chemical processes behind disease and treatment, while psychology allows me to better understand patient behavior and mental health. Together, my major and minors prepare me academically for medical school and a future career medicine.

Favorite and/or most impactful course
The class that made the biggest impact on me so far was General Chemistry 1 because it was the first class that truly challenged me. It was my first college-level science class, and it was much more fast-paced and demanding than what I was used to in high school. This class taught me better time management and helped me figure out what study methods actually worked for me. Even though it was stressful at times, it helped me adjust to college and made me realize I’m capable of handling hard classes if I put in the work.

Research or internship experience
I am a student research assistant under Paul Hanson in his Landscape Evolution and Luminescence Geochronology Lab. I analyze the contents of soil cores collected across the Nebraska plains to better understand its composition and help determine where in Nebraska is best suited for farming.

Other involvement
The Honors Program and VSA (Vietnamese Student Association)

Why you chose Nebraska
I decided to come to Nebraska because staying close to home was really important to me because this meant I could stay near my family and friends. Nebraska also had strong academic programs and opportunities that aligned with my goals.
