What sparked your interest in your major(s) or area(s) of study?
My interest in my major started back when I was a junior in high school, where I had to write a first chapter of a fantasy novel and the teacher loved it and told me that I should turn it into a novel. After that I started writing stories and poetry a lot and I love doing that. I've also loved reading my entire life so I knew I wanted to focus my study on something relating to English.
I've always loved film and have been really interested in them. I then took a silent era film course at UNL and I found that class to be one of my favorites and I try to watch as many older movies as I can because I find them very cool to watch.
Were there any other people, activities, or events from your time at UNL that helped you get to where you are now?
There were a few professors at UNL that helped get me to where I am now. The two that first come to mind is Ava Winter and Dr. Rosemarie Holz. I had Ava for two classes, one of them a poetry class and that is when I realized that I loved writing and reading poetry. Ava really encouraged me to write poetry even before I was enrolled in the poetry writing course. I added a LGBTQ+ Studies minor my junior year because I was already taking a lot of courses related to the topic and I thought it would be very interesting to learn more about the topic. For the minor, I took Dr. Holz's History of Sexuality class which is probably my favorite class I took at UNL. Rose really made the class really fun and interesting and it was really where my interest of LGBTQ+ history really took off.
What are your future professional goals?
My goal for the future is to publish a poetry book collection. I've been writing a lot of poems over the past few years and my long term goal is to become an author. I thought starting with an area that I find myself really interested in and love to wrote would be a good way to possibly get published someday.
