Congratulations to Yvonne Lai who has received the 2025 Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics!
The award honor college or university professors who are widely recognized for extraordinary teaching effectiveness and whose influence extends beyond their own institutions. The MAA recognizes her "transformative work in mathematics education and teacher preparation...she leads inclusive, active-learning environments that promote deep engagement and belonging."
“She makes you feel like your ideas matter and should always be taken into consideration," a student said. "This is the most welcome I have ever felt in a class in my college career.”
Lai has also demonstrated leadership as the founding chair of the organization’s Special Interest Group on Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (SIGMAA-MKT) and a former chair of the Committee on the Mathematical Education of Teachers (COMET).
