Why you chose your major
I chose Actuarial Science because it combines my interests in mathematics, finance, and economics, all of which challenge me to think critically and problem-solve. I want to be challenged to always be learning in my career and actuaries are definitely doing that. I added Data Science because it combines my growing interest in computer science with the practical application of analyzing and interpreting data. My minors further complement these areas and are extensions of concepts I already enjoy.
Favorite and/or most impactful course
Interest Theory (ACTS 440) has had the biggest impact, it has also been the biggest step towards my degree so far. I learned basic financial mathematics concepts and signed up to take my first actuarial exam because of it. The course was challenging but all the concepts were extremely relevant and left me wanting more.
Research or internship experience
Right now, I am an Ameritas Reasearch Assistant for the Department of Finance. My responsibilities include sorting through large datasets, using coding languages like SAS to compile and organize information into Excel spreadsheets, and ensuring accuracy in all assignments. This experience has enhanced my ability to work both independently and collaboratively while developing strong analytical and technical skills.
Other involvement
Right now, I’m a member of Gamma Iota Sigma, Actuarial Science club, and participating in the Ameritas Emerging Leaders program. I also volunteer as a tutor for math motivators and just finished my first semester as an Honors Peer mentor. Additionally, I've continuously volunteered with the Beyond School Bells organization and participated in their CityBuild 2040 project as well as 2 Design Sprint sessions.
Why you chose Nebraska
I chose Nebraska because of the campus and student life. I wanted college to be a place where I could constantly be involved and have something to do. I also liked that it wasn’t too far from home.
Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
