Why you chose your major

Sociology interested me because I have always been intrigued by the motives and causations of people's actions. I love learning about people's backgrounds and values, and Sociology takes this on in a broad and inclusive scope. I added English because it is something I have always really enjoyed and been good at. My mother is a high school English teacher, so I grew up around and fell in love with the material and its applications.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

The Sociology course Gender in a Contemporary Society, taught by Dr. Regina Werum during that semester, had a positive impact on my mentality as a first year. It was the class that helped show me that the major I chose was right for me, which was a confidence booster, especially in those first few unnerving months of college. I was also able to make a close connection with my professor. She actually ended up advising me to declare a second major in English and to keep pursing foreign language, both of which I am extremely grateful I did.

Other involvement

I am heavily involved in the University Honors Program. I currently serve as an Honors Ambassador and After-school Club Leader. My club this semester teaches 3rd graders how to develop and refine their tactile skills and creativity while constructing a variety of crafts from a variety of materials. Next fall, I will also be a Peer Mentor for the 101H class for incoming Honors students. I am also a copy editor at the college’s newspaper, The Daily Nebraskan.

Why you chose Nebraska

I didn't want to go out of state, and UNL was just far enough away from home. I loved the diversity and inclusion this campus had to offer compared to the others I'd toured. I'd only ever lived in a very small town, so I was excited to try city living.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
