7 CAS Huskers earn Honors Program awards

Seven graduating seniors have earned awards from the University Honors Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

The recipients:

  • Fatima Al-Sammak, microbiology, Outstanding Honors Peer Mentor Leader
  • Leigh Jahnke, biological sciences and Spanish, Outstanding Honors Program Student Advisory Board Member
  • Kailynn Jensen, chemistry, Honors Resilience Award
  • Antonio Linhart, computer science, Outstanding Honors Ambassador
  • Sawyer Smith, mathematics, Outstanding Honors Graduate: College of Arts and Sciences
  • Amr Sobeh, biochemistry, Honors Resilience Award
  • Huey-Xian Kelly Wong, biochemistry and psychology, Honors Afterschool Coach

The awards:

  • The Outstanding Honors Leadership Award recognizes an honors graduate who has made the most significant and lasting impact to the Honors Program through their leadership.
  • The Honors Program collaborated with Nebraska's undergraduate colleges to recognize an Outstanding Honors Graduate from each college based on their contributions to, and involvement with, both the Honors Program and their respective colleges.
  • Outstanding leadership within one of the Honors Program's registered student organizations was also recognized: Honors Ambassadors, Honors Program Student Advisory Board, Honors Peer Mentor Leaders and the Dr. Michael W. Combs Honors Scholars.
  • The Honors Resilience Award acknowledges Honors Program graduates who have persisted and grown through adversity during their time at Nebraska to achieve at a high level both personally and academically.
