Michael Sibbernsen, physics and astronomy lecturer, received the 2018 Friend of Science Award from the Nebraska Academy Of Sciences. This honor is the organization's highest award in recognition for outstanding achievement in the field of science education and scientific research. Sibbernsen received the award during the academy's 128th annual meeting April 20.

Tyler White, assistant professor of practice in political science, was named 2018 Instructor of the Year by the International Association for Intelligence Education. The award recognizes contributions to the curriculum and instruction of intelligence education. White will collect the award in person July 22-25 at the IAFIE annual conference in Sydney, Australia.

Biochemistry graduate student Allison Barnes has earned Predoctoral Fellowship from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture within the United States Department of Agriculture. The fellowship includes a stipend of $95,000 to continue research on her project, "Membrane stability in times of stress: activation of Sensitive to Freezing."

Courtney Herber, graduate student in history, and Anna Lampe, biological sciences graduate student, were awarded summer 2018 Graduate Travel Awards from the Graduate Student Assembly. Winners receive either $400 for domestic conference travel, or $600 for international conferences.
