Dawn O. Braithwaite, Willa Cather Professor and chair of the communication studies department, is the recipient of the inaugural Communication Administration Award for Communication Administrator Excellence. Braithwaite will be presented with the award by the National Communication Association during the organization's annual conference in Baltimore this November.

Mike Lippman, associate professor of practice in classics, and students in the university's Classics Club were recognized for their work on the annual Homerathon by the Society for Classical Studies. Homerathon was recognized as a Classics Everywhere event. The recognition is accompanied by a mini-grant to help with the event. Homerathon is held each April and includes a complete reading of a Homer text, interspersed with entertainment, food and Classics discussions.

Jordan Stump, professor of French, has been longlisted for the 2019 National Book Award for Translated Literature for his English translation of the French memoir "The Barefoot Woman" by Scholastique Mukasonga. His translation is among seven novels, two memoirs, and a collection of essays longlisted from 145 total books.
