Associate Dean Jockers accepts new position as dean at WSU

Matthew Jockers, professor and associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has been named dean of Washington State University’s College of Arts and Sciences. He will begin his new role on Aug. 1.

Jockers helped lead research and economic development initiatives and expanded collaborations with industry and other outside organizations as Associate Dean for Research and Partnerships for the college.

Jocker’s research as Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor in the Department of English uses computers for text mining and analysis, and his literary training is in Irish and Irish-American literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He has authored numerous articles and books, including “Bestseller Code: Anatomy of the Blockbuster Novel” (2016).

He received the university’s Breakthrough Innovation of the Year Award in 2017 for a tool that analyzes manuscripts for bestseller potential.

He is a faculty fellow in the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities and the Center for Great Plains Studies; faculty affiliate in the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior; and director of the Nebraska Literary Lab.
