Majors: Biochemistry
Minors: Chemistry, Humanities in Medicine
Hometown: Mitchell, Nebraska
Graduated: May '19

What does graduating from Nebraska mean to you?
"Graduation from UNL makes the most significant transition in my life. I have grown immensely during my undergraduate years. UNL has prepared me to continue my education to be a physician."

Transformational moment
"I would not be in the place I am today if it weren't for the continued support from my advisor, Erin Sayer. Whether it be helping me find teaching or research opportunities, completing scholarship applications, writing a letter of recommendation for medical school, submitting my medical school application, completing my thesis and anything in between, I can confidently say that I would not have been able to get through it all without the expertise and selfless support from Dr. Sayer."

Plans after graduation
"Omaha, Nebraska."

After graduation, I am most looking forward to...
"Starting medical school at UNMC College of Medicine."

The best thing about being a Husker is...
"The relationships you are able to build with students and faculty. There truly is no place like Nebraska."

Why you chose your major
"I have always loved both chemistry and biology so it made sense to major in Biochemistry. I love the challenge of biochemistry and learning how to look at the big picture of the everyday occurrences that happen in the world."

Favorite course
"Organic Chemistry has been my favorite and most challenging course I've taken so far. I love the problem solving aspect of the course and the way organic is interconnected with general chemistry and biochemistry. This course ultimately inspired me to get involved in an organic synthesis research laboratory."

Research or internship experience
"I [was] a member of the Dussault group since my junior year and have been able to research approaches to synthesize biotin-thiol conjugates for affinity purification and photoactivatable fatty acids as tools for illuminating biochemical pathways. Research has been one of the most influential experiences for my academic development and has allowed me to apply my course work to the real world."

Other involvement

  • CAS Student Ambassador
  • Greek Life
  • Honors Program Peer Mentor
  • ASUN Academic Committee
  • Biology Teaching Assistant
  • UCARE
  • Order of Omega
  • Innocents Society

Why you chose Nebraska
"Scholarships and finances initially lead me to attend UNL, but I accessed opportunities both in and out of the classroom that I would not be able to achieve at any other university. UNL has provided me with challenges and accomplishments that have prepared me for life after graduation in immeasurable ways. I cannot image a better place to complete my undergraduate degree at. Go Big Red!"
