Seven undergraduate students from the College of Arts and Sciences are among 13 students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to earn Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships, allowing them to study abroad in during the spring 2018 semester.
The program’s goal is to allow students to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages and economies — making them better prepared to assume leadership roles within government and the private sector.
Recipients from the college:
- Keegan Adams, junior, global studies, China
- Tyler Matson, sophomore, global studies and political science, Russia
- Khenda Mustafa, senior, global studies, Morocco
- Julie Peterson, senior, global studies, Japan
- Jaime Stephenson, junior, psychology, Ireland
- Lane Vasa, senior, German and business administration, Germany
- Joshua Ward, senior, global studies, Belgium
- Alexander Webster, senior, German, Germany
Additional accolades:
- Matson and Mustafa received an additional $3,000 on top of the maximum award because they are studying Critical Need Languages while abroad.

- Nationally competitive scholarship awarded three times a year by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
- This round was awarded to fewer than 1,000 students from 386 universities and colleges.
- Scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply toward study abroad or internship program costs.
