Fourth annual Science Slam is April 10

Nebraska's fourth annual Science Slam will begin at 11:30 a.m. April 10 in the Great Hall of the Wick Alumni Center.

Science Slam provides members of the campus community with the opportunity to communicate their research in short, engaging presentations. The winner will be decided by the audience.

The Arts and Sciences finalists

Nicole Benker Nicole Benker is an alumna and researcher in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. In her talk, she'll tell us, "Congratulations, You Failed!"
Nicole Benker Andrew Conner is a graduate student in the Department of Mathematics and a 2018 Science Slam alum. In his talk, he will discuss "Math and the Ocean."
Nicole Benker Dan Haden is a graduate student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. In his talk, he will discuss "Nontraditional Applications of Lasers for Extreeeeme Light!"
Nicole Benker Alice MillerMacPhee is a graduate student in the Department of Sociology and three-time Science Slam participant. In her talk, she'll tell us, "There's a Method For That."


Liz Neeley, Executive Director of Story Collider, is the keynote speaker for the event. She will also present a lecture after the Slam at 1:30 p.m. in the Wick Alumni Center.

Neeley is a lecturer at Yale in conjunction with the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative. For the past decade, she has helped scientists around the world tell more compelling stories about their work.

This year's Science Slam is hosted by Nebraska's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. It is free and open to the campus community, and those wishing to attend can register in advance to receive a free lunch.
