Sarita Garcia, a first-year graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Department of History, helped children in her hometown of Laredo, Texas get excited about going to college and connect with Nebraska.

Every Friday is "College Friday," and on these days, students are allowed to wear a shirt from their college of choice, instead of the usual polo shirt and khaki pants. Two of Garcia's sisters are grade-school teachers and have noticed that not every child is able to participate on these days because they lack the funds to purchase a college t-shirt.

In addition to making the children happy, "It lets these children know that their options are not limited to surrounding colleges," Garcia said.
