What does graduating from Nebraska mean to you?
To me, graduating from Nebraska means having the opportunity to go do anything, building on all of the connections I have created.

Transformational moments
Dr. Valentine, a professor in the Raikes School, has made an impact on me since the first day I had class at Nebraska in Fall of 2018. Throughout my time here at Nebraska, she has taught me four different courses, has been my boss for one semester, and now this past year has been my advisor for my capstone project. From all of these different experiences with Dr. Valentine, I have known her as an incredible supporter, mentor, and teacher. She taught me that it's okay to not know all the answers immediately and learn along the way. Her passion for teaching made me want to get involved as a Teaching Assistant for her courses and serve as a mentor to teach middle school students robotics. Although my career after graduation is not teaching, my interactions with Dr. Valentine have no doubt made me want to consider teaching later in my life and continuing to learn even when I am no longer in college.

For the last two summers, I had the opportunity to have two internships at Google. These opportunities were remote, due to the pandemic, but allowed me to get more experience in my chosen industry and get a better idea of what my life might look like after graduation. In Summer 2020, I got to be on the Google Assistant Team for Google Shopping and this past summer I got to be on the Fuchsia team. Working with experienced full time engineers initially was daunting, but they were very kind and understanding in teaching me the basics of how to get started on my projects. Fuchsia, the product I worked on last summer, was released publicly during the time that I was working on it, which was an incredible experience to get to see a large company's product launch while being in the midst of the work! Through these internships, I was able to truly apply all of the concepts that I have learned in my classes at Nebraska which helped me get invited back to come back to Google as a full-time engineer after graduation!

After graduation
I will be working as a Software Engineer at Google in Seattle, Washington. I am most looking forward to moving to Seattle and beginning work to develop products that impact millions of people around the world.
