What does graduating from Nebraska mean to you?
I am a first-generation graduate from a first-generation American household. I grew up in some of the most impoverished communities in Lincoln and did not believe that I would go to college due to many of my classmates finding themselves behind bars or dropping out. Here at UNL not only did I become a scholar, but I also became a better human being and was pushed and believed in a way I had never been my whole life. As a future lawyer, every single one of my clients will have the University of Nebraska Lincoln to thank for the justice I will earn for them.

Transformational moments
During the summer of 2020, our country went through a racial reckoning in response to the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahamaud Arbery. In response, as the president of the Black Student Union my peers and I wrote a statement with a list of changes we wanted to see at our university. We made a home out of a place that once felt like it didn't belong. This statement and the initiatives of our group during this time led to a university-wide commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Chancellor created the Journey on Anti-Racism.
