This week, #NebraskaHonors is spotlighting senior Lauren Dubas, who has exciting plans to attend law school at the University of Iowa this fall.

Over the past year, Lauren has devoted a lot of time to completing her Honors Senior Project, a thesis about political perceptions during the early years of the Civil War. “Through the process I discovered a love for research, which has impacted where I have decided to go to law school so I can pursue further research opportunities.”

Outside of the Honors Program, Lauren says her involvement in organizations such as Greek life, student government, and Omicron Delta Kappa Honors Society helped her learn valuable lessons.

“Throughout college I learned how to focus my time and energy into things that brought me happiness or added value to my life rather than doing things that other people think is the 'right' thing for you to do. You get to decide what you want in life!”

This is a lesson that Lauren thinks applies well to her Honors experience, too:

“Take advantage of the flexibility of the Honors Program, where you can earn credit to try something new or get credit for something you are already doing! The work for your Honors degree will feel a lot less like work when you are excited and motivated about the opportunities you have.”
