Majors: Global Studies, German, Advertising and Public Relations Triple Major

Hometown: Hastings, NE

Year: Senior

Favorite book and why:
Babel by R.F. Kuang – as someone who studies multiple languages (German, French, Russian, Mandarin, Hebrew, Yiddish), a book where knowing languages and being able to translate and interpret is seen as magical and the highest societal honor? Sign me up! A great read for anyone interested in multilingualism or fantasy.

Favorite movie and why:
For me, the Star Wars movies are always a classic (thanks to my Dad!) – but, if I have to pick just one, you can never go wrong with Revenge of the Sith.

Why these majors?
I chose German and Global Studies because of my grandfather, who taught me that the world was larger than Nebraska and that being able to travel it and speak with the people you meet, in their language, is the best type of connection you will ever have. I added on Advertising and Public Relations for the same reason: connecting with people, which was inspired by studying media and art history while I was studying abroad in Tahiti.

One of the classes I've enjoyed the most as part of my Global Studies major is Intercultural and Intergroup Communications!
My suggestion for new SGIS Majors is to be open to the experience! Take classes on topics/regions you didn't think you might love learning about!

If you aren't a Global Studies Major yet, I recommend it because our world is SO interconnected. As a multiple-major, I think that Global Studies goes well with any other major or field of study because we all need to know about our international friends!

Extracurricular Experiences:
For two semesters, I was on the DEI team at Jacht Agency – a student-run advertising agency that is open to students of all majors (including Global Studies!) Being able to use my knowledge from my Global Studies degree to help support others in the agency really solidified what I want to do as I prepare to graduate, so I highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested.

Additionally, I serve as the Director of Voter Registration for @huskervote – while we can only register individuals in Nebraska (which I LOVE doing), my Global Studies knowledge has made it so I am aware of what resources may or may not be available for those trying to vote from abroad.

Post-Graduation Plans:
Right now, my post-graduation plans are to find a job in Washington, D.C.! Nothing is set in stone yet, but I'd love to work in DEI again – my dream job would be a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since it would combine all my majors, my passion for DEI, and my love of the Eurovision Song Contest!
