Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
Some of my strongest role models and mentors here have been biology professor Ms. Marianna Burks, my lab PI Dr. Wayne Riekhof, and members of the life skills department in the UNL athletic department.

Do you have research experience (UCARE or other)? If so, please describe your project:
I am currently a part of UCARE and work in Dr. Riekhof's lab at the Beadle Center on campus. My project is designed to discover whether cranking up the dosage of a specific gene increases resistance to our potential drugs. This research is geared towards creating new antifungals that have not developed resistance.

What are you involved in on campus?
I am currently the secretary of the Minority Pre-Health Association (MPHA) and this organization allows me to interact with fellow pre-med students in order to gain and provide resources to pursue a career in medicine. I am also on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) where I get to work with fellow student-athletes to help shape the landscape of intercollegiate athletics. I am on the executive committee for a group named N-Volved which is a leadership group that talks about relevant issues and topics occurring in the community. I am a part of Inner Circle which is a group focused on building leadership skills, serving the community, and improving personal development. In addition, I am a team captain for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln track team.

What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I hope to attend medical school.
