Why did you apply to be a NSE leader?
After working for the international welcome team in NSE, I realized NSE makes a lot of difference in student's life. As a team leader, I got to experience first hand the welcome international students felt because of NSE and throughout the semester, maintain these newfound friendships or just waving at the students in hallways. I wanted to do the same with domestic students on a larger courses of time.

Name a person who has helped you be successful at Nebraska
My current roommate (and former OL), Anamaria Guzman. The very first time I met her, she could not pronounce my name but was willing to repeat it until she could (it took her 5 tries). One simple act made a very lasting impression, someone in this place was willing to make an effort and respect me. Last day of orientation, I saw her and thought, one day I want to be like her: confident, wiling to make a change and kind. Over the years, she motivated me and inspired me to take on the opportunities thrown my way, helped me understand the American college system and social aspect better, provided me strength in difficult times and inspired me to apply to be NSE OL.

When you tell people you attend the University of Nebraska, how do you describe your school?
I start my saying it is a university in Midwest America. I like to tell people about the academic freedom I receive in the sense that there are a variety of classes I can take based on my interests, the countless resources available to all students, the amazing career development opportunities I get (jobs, internships and others). I absolutely love showing my friends and people I meet the gorgeous city campus, the buildings stretched across a wide campus and the beautiful museums too. The social life and all the nightlife activities planned by the university are something I don't forget about.

What does being a Husker mean to you?
I am a part of something big. I am making a change. I am a Husker.

  • I am a part of the Indian Student Association.
  • I contacted my advisor on a regular basis for opportunities and that's how I got my current internship.
  • I joined the International Welcome Team through which I met the student who started something called "Global Friends", where a group of international and domestic students create lasting friendships.

Tell us about one experience that you have had that has been memorable or impactful.
Sitting down with one of my mentors to talk about changing my majors. I remember that conversation because through that, I learned that I do not have to be confined in a box that describes. In college, I can choose whatever major I want and pursue any career I want to.

"The best thing about Nebraska is ______."
The people and the serenity.

Best advice to a new college student
Be uncomfortable. Get out of your comfort zone. College is about finding relationships, purpose in life and yourself. And if you have no idea who you are, college is the best place to create the real you.

Favorite ice cream flavor
Bulgarian Chocolate and mint.

Favorite binge-worthy TV show
Games of Thrones (despite the disappointing last season).
