Alexei Gruverman, professor of physics and astronomy, has received the Ferroelectrics Recognition Award from the Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control Society. The annual award honors members of the society for outstanding achievements in their scientific field and for promoting the ferroelectrics community.

The society is part of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The award cited Gruverman for his fundamental and applied studies of nanoscale physical phenomena using scanning probe microscopy.

Kristen Olson, associate professor of sociology, won the International Journal of Market Research’s Collaborative Research Award. The award honors the best paper written as a collaboration between academics and private industry, and published in the journal.

Xiaoyu Lin and Tim Banks of the company Nielsen collaborated on the paper, “Evaluating Data Quality in Reports of Sales in a Retail Establishment Survey.”
