Why you chose your major

I picked my major because I was incredibly interested in microbiology and especially when they can become pathogenic.

Favorite course

My favorite course in college would be the Biology of viruses because it was one of the first classes I was actually able to learn about viruses and what they can do. This class also led me to finding a research experience because I felt that I really got along with the professor and now I am an undergraduate in his lab!

Research or internship experience

I am currently working to clone and vectorize a Bovine Adenovirus so that it can carry and express genes in the host cell in order to begin creating a vaccine for the swine flu in pigs. I have really enjoyed working in this lab and it has been one of the greatest experiences I have had here at the University.

Other involvement

I am currently the President of Sigma Lambda Beta. I am currently the Battalion Executive Officer for the Big Red Battalion in Army ROTC Program UCARE Research at the Nebraska Center for Virology.

Why you chose Nebraska

I chose UNL because it was far enough away from home that I could truly experience the independence of being on my own, while also being close enough to family that I could still be present in family gatherings and celebrations. I also felt an attachment to the University as I attended multiple programs and events held here throughout grade school.

Student Ambassadors group

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
