Three faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences are among fifteen at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln selected to participate in the 2023-24 cohort of the Office of Research and Economic Development’s Research Leaders Program. This initiative to identify and develop Nebraska’s next generation of research leaders is in partnership with the Center for Executive and Professional Development in the College of Business.

Participants were selected through a competitive application process.

  • Eileen Hebets, biological sciences
  • Karrie Weber, biological sciences and earth and atmospheric sciences
  • Xiaoshan Xu, physics and astronomy

These research-active faculty will learn the information, skills, and connections needed to assemble and lead teams in the pursuit of major extramural funding. The program begins in September and will conclude next April, when participants will present their plans for elevating their research, scholarship, or creative activity to their colleagues and university leaders.

Creating a campus culture committed to increasing the impact of research and creative activity is a key aim of the N2025 strategic plan.

“This is the fourth cohort of the Research Leaders Program, which helps faculty develop their strengths and their leadership capacity,” Bob Wilhelm, vice chancellor for research and economic development, said. “Past participants have seen their participation give them further skills to enable them to do great work that impacts Nebraska and the world, and we expect the same from this new group.”
