Marco Abel and Tom Marley are among five University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty selected for the 2017-18 Department Executive Officers Seminar, a leadership development program put together by the Big Ten Academic Alliance.

Each year approximately 65 department heads and chairs from Big Ten Academic Alliance universities come together for three days to discuss topics ranging from conflict resolution and time management to faculty development, performance reviews, and group problem-solving.

Matthew Jockers was one of five selected for the Big Ten's Academic Leadership Program. Each year, up to five Nebraska faculty members are selected as ALP Fellows and participate in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program.

Established in 1989, the program develops the academic leadership and managerial skills of nominated faculty who have demonstrated exceptional ability and academic promise. The program addresses the challenges of academic administration at major research universities, while helping faculty members prepare to meet those challenges.

Abel, professor and chair of the Department of English, is currently interested in exploring the history of political, or "left," cinema in German film culture from the 1960s to the present. He has written two monographs and over fifty essays and interviews, and he is co-editor of the University of Nebraska book series Provocations and three volumes.

Marley, professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics, has been a PI or co-PI on over $5 million in National Science Foundation grants. He previously directed the Nebraska IMMERSE program and received a teaching award from the Mathematical Association of America. His research is in the field of commutative algebra. He serves on the editorial board of the Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics.

Jockers is the Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor of English and Associate Dean for Research and Partnerships in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska. He is a text miner with expertise in computational approaches to the study of literature. His books include The Bestseller Code: Anatomy of the Blockbuster Novel, co-written with Jodie Archer.
