Graduate students Chinemerem Ogbu, Crystal Uminski, and Winifred Waters have been selected to compete in the inaugural Student Research Days Slam on April 13.

Student presenters will give an eight-minute presentation on a skill they've developed through their research experience or creative activity that they believe would make the world better if everyone had it. The audience votes on the best presentation and show support for each presenter by throwing stuffed animals.

  • Ogbu, biochemistry, is a researcher in Alex Vecchio's lab. Her research is focused on structural characterization of tight junction proteins and understanding the function of these proteins from their structures.
  • Uminski, biological sciences, is specializing in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. She participated in last year's Science Slam, where she talked about breaking the learn-and-forget cycle of testing.
  • Waters, chemistry, is a member of researcher Alexander Sinitskii's lab, which is working on the chemical design of novel functional materials for applications in electronics, photonics, sensors, and energy storage
Student Research Days Slam

The university has previously held five Science Slam events. This is the first event of its kind to be open to all areas of study.

The event is part of Student Research Days to be held April 11-15, 2022, hosted by the Office of Research and Economic Development.
